A combined $500,000 in grants was given to 35 Siouxland organizations on Thursday, when annual awards from the Missouri River Historical Development organization were announced. The grants were divided into 5 different categories.
The MRHD grants ranged from $2,124 to $25,000. The largest amount of $25,000 went to 4 agencies including Sioux City Community Schools for band instruments, and Plaines Area Mental Health, Inc. for mobile crisis service. The Siouxland Community Health Center received the next largest amount of $24, 211 for its Women’s Health Services expansion and enhancement.
The Remsen Lions Club received $2,124 for a vision camera and Lutheran Services in Iowa received $2,900 for infant essentials for families enrolled in child abuse prevention services.
The Target grant program provides up to $25,000 for projects focused on community impact, facility improvements, and other short-term needs.
The Missouri River Historical Development group holds the license for casino gambling in Woodbury County, and its officials provide such grants as part of their mission.
MRHD gives out three rounds of grants each year, including the largest financial grant of up to $1 million, in the Economic Development Match Grant category.
