Longtime Sioux City Judge McCormick has died at age 85

A former prominent Sioux City judge, Patrick McCormick, died in late April at age 85 in North Carolina.

A member of a public service family, Pat was a son of Judge Lawrence McCormick, and a brother, Mike, was a Sioux City police officer.

McCormick received a law degree from the University of iowa in 1966. He worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the city of Sioux City.

He served as a United States Magistrate for the Northern District of Iowa in the early 1970s, and then served eight years as the Woodbury County Attorney in the 1980s.

In his final judicial role, he worked as District Associate Judge beginning January 1996, until retiring in 2006 as Senior Judge.

McCormick loved working on cars and several relatives still live in the Sioux City area.

A funeral mass will be held in Sioux City on May 16.
