Red flag warning continues in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota on Monday due to warm, dry weather conditions.

A red flag warning is when critical weather conditions are either occurring now or are about to happen, indicating a high risk of an extreme or uncontrollable fire.

On Saturday more than 50 fire departments responded to a large grass fire in Lawton and Bronson, Iowa.

According to the National Weather Service, the fire spread across five miles of Woodbury County, damaging homes and power lines and forcing a shutdown on Highway 20.

The flames were fueled by high winds and extremely low humidity and spread quickly throughout the area.

Emergency management is still trying to calculate the number of acres impacted and the exact cause of the fire.

Additionally, while some fires in Nebraska reached containment this weekend, others broke out in different areas. The Ashby and Minor fires have reached 51% and 30% containment as of Monday afternoon.

As firefighters in South Dakota continue to contain fires across the state, officials are telling residents to be careful with potential ignition sources.
