A second soldier from Iowa has been identified among the Army Reserve soldiers killed on Sunday.
According to the U.S. Army Reserve website, Major Jeffery O'Brien was 45 years old from Waukee, Iowa; he was appointed as a signal officer in 2012.
During his time of service, he has been awarded multiple honors, including the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Sergeant Declan Coady was the other soldier identified; he was 20 years old and attending Drake University for computer science and cybersecurity.
Governor Kim Reynolds said her and her husband's hearts are broken by the deaths of the two Iowa soldiers and gave her condolences to their families.
Reynolds ordered all flags in the state to fly half-staff right away until the final day of interment in honor and remembrance of Major O’Brien and Sergeant Coady.
