Iowa Lakes Community College provided an update on Friday regarding the athletes involved in the bus crash.

In a post they said they will continue to grieve the loss of student and baseball player Carter Johnson and support his family. Carter Johnson of Rapid City, South Dakota, was killed when the bus left a curve in the road and flipped into a ditch on Highway 4 in Calhoun County.

The post mentioned the college remains focused on every baseball player impacted by the accident by providing care, flexibility, and resources.

One student athlete and the bus driver remain hospitalized as other team members are carrying on with their recovery.

An accident report released by the Iowa State Patrol says a the bus driver failed to negotiate a curve and lost control. Two players were ejected and trapped under the bus.

The college said it will not provide additional medical information out of respect and privacy of those affected by the accident.

During a board of trustees meeting, Kim Venteicher, director of sports medicine, said they focus on supporting students’ well-being by working closely with coaches, healthcare providers, and families.
