The Sioux City Council approved a consulting services agreement with TetonRidge in its meeting Monday. The action was deferred from last week’s meeting.
The consulting agreement is related to the redevelopment of the property at 100, 112, and 124 Pierce Street. Walgreens, Burger King, and the empty Ashley Furniture store are currently located at this site.
During the meeting, Mayor Bob Scott said the city is limiting itself to one group, and if requests were sent out to different groups, the city could end up with great ideas, better plans, and possibly a developer.
Council member Rick Bertrand also questioned why the city doesn’t send out requests to local consulting firms first before hiring an outside firm.
Under the agreement, the consulting firm will release a request for proposals, recruit developers, and assist the city with choosing a development partner.
According to a memo, the consulting firm can provide an additional level of objectivity to the selection process.
The action passed on a 3 to 2 vote, with both Scott and Bertrand voting no.
