The Sioux City Council approved an economic development assistance contract with Sioux Honey Association and changes to the Donner Park Urban Renewal Plan in its meeting Monday.
The contract would allow Sioux Honey to move forward with its $130 million expansion project.
As part of the project, the company will relocate its California operations to Sioux City, creating 39 new jobs. The project includes purchasing a warehouse, renovating some office space, and constructing a new processing plant and raw goods warehouse.
In December the council approved the company’s application for financial assistance through the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Since the city will be using tax increment funding, the law requires changes to the Donner Park Urban Renewal Plan to include the Sioux Honey expansion project. The city’s financial support for the project will be funded with TIF made from the project.
