Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed an executive order creating a nuclear energy task force on Monday.
According to the press release, the task force was created to advise Reynolds, the general assembly, and state agencies on the development and advancement of nuclear energy.
“The creation of the Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force marks a strategic step forward, ensuring the safe, efficient, and responsible integration of nuclear energy into our energy portfolio,” said Reynolds.
The task force consists of 11 members from various backgrounds in the energy industry.
Responsibilities of the task force include assessing emerging nuclear technologies, engaging with manufacturers and industry leaders, and evaluating opportunities to enhance economic growth through nuclear energy.
A report submission covering the task force’s findings and recommendations is required within 180 days of the order’s issuance.
