First Day Hikes will be held in Iowa parks on January 1

Three Northwest Iowa state parks will be among more than 40 locations participating in First Day Hikes that will take place on January 1.

The First Day Hikes are held each year by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Among the local hikes will be events at Stone State Park in Sioux City and at Loess Hills State Forest at Little Sioux, Iowa.

Additionally, a self guided hike will be held on the Barney Peterson Interpretive Trail at Gull Point State Park in Dickinson County. That 1.5 mile trail features prairie and a scenic overlook
