The Sioux City Council accepted a land purchase proposal from Knife River for an expansion project in its meeting Monday. Knife River is a company that provides construction materials and services to the road paving industry.

Knife River and city staff have been discussing the expansion project for a little over a year. The project would expand Knife River’s facility by Hawkeye Drive and 18th Street.

It would create 20 jobs and take place over the next several years.

Additionally, the council approved a certificate that would allow improvements to be made to the facade and interior of a historic building at 421 Pearl Street.

Renovations for a new restaurant, office space, and rooftop lounge will be included with the improvements.

During construction, key building features will be restored and protected.
