Iowa farmers with unpaid grain sold to Hansen-Mueller may file a claim with the Iowa Grain Depositors and Sellers Indemnity Fund. Hansen-Mueller claimed bankruptcy in November and has facilities in Sioux City and Council Bluffs.

Farmers who sold grain to the company before November 17th have until March 17th, 2026, to file their claims with the Iowa Grain Depositors and Sellers Indemnity Fund.

Don McDowell, Communications Director of the Iowa Department of Agriculture, told Siouxland Public Media on Wednesday, “At this time the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is unaware of any Iowa producers who are unpaid.”

McDowell says that the bankruptcy filings from Hansen-Mueller do not list any Iowa farmers as creditors.

“Our Grain Warehouse Bureau continues to monitor the situation and review records,” said McDowell.

The indemnity fund protects farmers in the event Iowa-licensed warehouses and dealers go out of business. It reimburses farmers up to 90 percent of losses and up to a maximum amount of $400,000 per claimant.
