Iowa Board of Regents President Sherry Bates announced Monday that she is resigning from the board effective December 4th.

In a statement President Bates said, “It’s time for me to step back, spend more time with my family, and allow the next generation of regent leadership to continue our good work.”

Bates was appointed to the board in December 2014 and was selected as president in January 2024. She has more than three years left of her current term.

President Pro Tem Greta Rouse is stepping down from her leadership position on the same date but will continue to serve as a member of the board until the end of her term in 2027.

The board will have a special meeting on Wednesday to hold elections for the positions.
