Nebraska LIHEAP experiencing delays

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is experiencing delays in distributing funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that provides assistance to low-income households for their energy costs.

Even though the government shutdown has ended, NDHHS has not received funds for fiscal year 2026.

Shannon Grotrian, Director of the Office of Economic Assistance, said, “In communicating with the federal government, the Administration for Children and Families anticipates the funding release to occur by the end of November and is working as quickly as possible to meet this goal.”

Heating benefits will be distributed once federal funds are received; an estimated date for when is unknown.

LIHEAP funds will remain available for households with utility shut-off notices.
