Crews have finished repairing a segment of the Missouri Riverfront Trail in Sioux City, after flooding heavily damaged the trail.

Historic flooding in June 2024 knocked out a section that runs west from the Chris Larsen Park boat ramp close to the south edge of Riverside Park

The Iowa Department of Transportation carried out the work, which involved stabilizing a washed out riverbank and new paving.

Some bicyclists over the weekend were riding through the new section, which for more than a year had been barricaded.  Having the trail repaired means that people can again ride all 12 miles of the riverfront trail from Chautauqua Park at the south to the Riverside neighborhood area near South Dakota.

As part of the work, the right lane of southbound Interstate 29 was closed for several weeks, and is now reopened.

Last year, IDOT officials estimated the total cost to fix a mile at about $8 million.
