The Sioux City Council will discuss approving plans for rehabilitation construction of the old Bacon Creek sanitary sewer project in its meeting Monday.

JEO Consulting Group of South Sioux City, has completed plans and specifications for the rehabilitation of the old Bacon Creek sewer project.

The project includes improving the interceptor sewer main and associated manholes beneath the old Bacon Creek channel and the replacing, repairing, or abandoning of connected sanitary collector mains and private laterals.

This section of the sewer was damaged when the old Bacon Creek channel was submerged in water from the 2019 flood.

Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources has mandated that the reconstruction project be completed by December 31st, 2027, or the city will be fined $5,000 per day.

Funding for the project will come from general obligation bonds, FEMA, and state funds for the Bacon Creek Channel reconstruction project.
