SNAP food benefits now returning in all 3 Siouxland states following shutdown end

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are returning for Siouxlanders in all three states, as the food assistance payments will be paid to recipients in Iowa and Nebraska by Friday at the latest.

South Dakota state agency officials on Wednesday said the benefits to about 37,000 households would be paid by Wednesday, after the federal government shutdown ended midweek.

The fate of SNAP payments in November swung back and forth as the Trump Administration challenged various court orders requiring payments to be made.

As the SNAP payments return, Iowa officials on Thursday warned people to be on watch for scams seeking access to their EBT cards.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is recommending that SNAP recipients check their EBT card balances before purchasing food.
