A second baby has been safely surrendered since the expansion of Nebraska’s Safe Haven law.
In Nebraska, a baby was surrendered to a safe haven location and is under the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Last July, the state revised a statute allowing a baby up to 90 days old to be left with an employee on duty at a hospital, a staffed fire station, or a staffed law enforcement agency.
Individuals are protected from criminal charges for surrendering a baby safely under the law.
