Amid the government shutdown, the Trump administration says it will restart Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments, but it will only pay half of the amount people normally receive.
The move follows a federal judge’s order directing the administration to use the USDA’s emergency funds to support SNAP benefits.
Iowa SNAP currently serves approximately 131,000 households per month and allocates around $45 million in benefits.
Due to the increased need for food, many Siouxland organizations have provided lists for food pantries and other food assistance programs.
Partial payments for SNAP benefits are to be distributed by November 5th.
