The Sioux City School Board held two closed sessions on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the investigation.

According to the memo, the first session was held to discuss records that are legally or federally required to be kept confidential.

It stated that the second session was to evaluate an individual’s professional competency, appointment, hiring, performance, or potential firing. The discussion is required to be kept private to prevent needless damage to the individual's reputation.

Earlier in the month the district approved hiring Attorney Amy Reasner of the Lynch Dallas Law Firm for a personnel matter.

Board President Jan George affirmed that Wednesday's first closed session concerned that investigation as first reported by other news outlets.

Dr. Juan Cordova attended the meeting but was informed that he could not take part in the closed session.

In comments to the media, Cordova stated that he was unaware of the board’s reasoning for its decision.

Cordova said the board has “the opportunity to make whatever decisions they feel are best for the school system.”

Cordova did not participate in either of the closed sessions.
