Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the state will provide interim support for Iowa’s food banks and pantries if the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits end on November 1st.
Beginning Monday, the state will match up to $1 million in cash donations to Iowa’s six regional food banks.
According to the press release, the food banks collectively serve 1,500 local partner agencies, including food pantries across 99 counties.
It also stated that three managed care organizations have committed to donate $100,000 each to support the state’s food banks.
Reynolds is directing state agencies to help at food banks and pantries.
She also ordered the Iowa National Guard to prepare for state active duty to conduct food distribution missions statewide.
