After four consecutive weeks with falling gas prices in Iowa, the latest weekly summary showed the average price went up last week.

And that latest gas prices recap came one day before prices in many Sioux City stations jumped 30 cents per gallon in 24 hours on Wednesday, from $2.59 to $2.89 at many places.

Experts say the price increase may be tied to the largest refinery in the Midwest being shut down due to a fire.

The average price in Iowa has remained below $3 since July.. The latest weekly summary by the American Automobile Association shared by the Iowa Department of Agriculture shows the average self-serve unleaded price was $2.81.

Prior to that, the price dropped from $2.97 over four weeks from late September to now, for a combined drop of 23 cents over that time.

Iowa average price of $2.81 is substantially lower than the current national average price of $3.07, and it is 15 cents below the Iowa price from one year ago.
