More than 100 laws take effect in Nebraska Wednesday, including the Stand with Women Act.
Under the Nebraska Constitution, most bills passed by the Legislature take effect three months after the session ends. Since the session ended in early June, that date falls on Wednesday.
Among the new laws taking effect is one that prohibits transgender athletes from participating on school and college sports teams that do not correspond with their sex at birth.
Another law that takes effect, changes eligibility rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and removes the need for an evaluation and report. The law goes into effect October 1st.
