Union strike underway at Kemps dairy plant in Northwest Iowa

Ways To Subscribe

A strike by union workers is underway at a dairy plant in Le Mars, Iowa.

That work stoppage began Thursday at the Kemps plant, under action pursued by about 200 workers in the Teamsters Local 554 union.

They are striking over working conditions, which a union official said could be improved by more safety in the plant and more good faith bargaining, according to KTIV News.

There may be a negotiation session Friday afternoon.

Union leaders say they’ve been negotiating with Kemps plant officials, which is a subsidiary of the Dairy Farmers of America, since March on a new contract.

The original Kemps business started in 1914 in Minnesota, and they produce a variety of dairy products.
