The Sioux City Community School District is planning to buy land once known as the Southern Hills Country Club to create a combined Sunnyside and Nodland Elementary School.

The district will buy 43 acres of land for $457,000 from the sales tax fund.

The Sioux City Community School Board has set a public hearing on the issue for 6 p.m. on Nov. 13. After the hearing, the board will vote on whether or not to purchase the land.

School Board President Dan Greenwell said at Monday's school board meeting the land would be used to build a combined Sunnyside and Nodland facility. He said that construction is still many years down the road.

Sunnyside Elementary is located at 2700 S. Maple Street and Nodland Elementary is located at 3300 S. Cypress Street

Nodland is Pre-K through second grade and Sunnyside is third through fifth grades. Sunnyside and Nodland are the only separate elementary schools in the district.
