Monday morning in Le Mars, Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has strong words for Hamas after the attacks on Israel.
During the war’s third day, Israel increased airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

“They have a responsibility to not just defend themselves, but to use overwhelming force to wipe Hamas off the face of the earth. They're terrorists, what they are doing is barbaric."

DeSantis says he believes Iran is behind the attacks. He says President Joe Biden has been “missing in action” and should have never allowed a recent prisoner exchange that freed five Americans but also gave Tehran access to $6 billion of frozen oil revenues.

All six Republicans who represent Iowa in the U-S House and Senate are condemning the terrorist attack in Israel and vowing to support renewed U.S. funding for Israel’s defense.

Sioux City residents can vote tomorrow to pare down the number of candidates who are vying for the sole Sioux City Council member position.

Since there are more than two people running for a council position, an extra primary election is held one month earlier than the traditional November election to narrow the field to two people. The primary election involves only one contest on the ballot.

The three running for the Sioux City Council seat are incumbent Councilwoman Julie Schoenherr, plus candidates Tricia Frederick and Tom Murphy.

For information on where and how to vote in the primary, go to elections.woodburycountyiowa.gov. The general election will held November 7th.

The year-long commemoration of Jack Trice wrapped up at Iowa State Sunday with a closing ceremony on the day Trice died following a football game 100 years ago. Trice’s cousin George Trice spoke at the event, and accepted an honorary degree for the ISU football player who died after being injured on the field.

He says Jack Trice wanted an animal husbandry degree to teach ex-slaves how to share crop, and earn money by doing what they had been doing for free.

A student group at the University of South Dakota will host a drag show Tuesday night. It’s the first LGBTQ+ event to be on campus since the South Dakota Board of Regents passed a policy limiting where minors could be on campus. Attendees need to be at least 18 years of age to attend the show at the student union.

The “minors on campus” policy became a policy outrage from conservative lawmakers over a drag show at South Dakota State University, that was hosted by a student organization. It had initially promoted as family-friendly.
