INTERVIEW: Head of the NAIA Says Iowa's Transgender Athlete Ban Will Not Impact National Tournaments in Sioux City

Tyson Events Center

Governor Kim Reynolds signed a law banning transgender girls and women from competing in sports in the state.

The ban immediately applies to competition in K-12 schools, community colleges, and colleges and universities that are part of the NCAA or NAIA.

Siouxland Public Media reached out to the head of the NAIA to see if the law will impact Sioux City’s role as host of several national NAIA events. President and CEO Jim Carr spoke to Siouxland Public Media from Brookings, South Dakota, where he was attending the NAIA National Track and Field Championships.
