Wednesday evening the Sioux City NAACP hosted their Senior Celebration at the Sioux City Convention Center. Traditionally the event is held on school grounds, however anti-DEI policies coming from the State forced the celebration off school district grounds.
Assistant Superintendent Angela Bemus thanked NAACP for being gracious and understanding:
“What I will say is that I am sorry, I’m sorry on behalf of, I’m sorry to everybody. What I can tell you though is we can make the square peg fit in the round hole. We can. We can make sure that all of our Black African American Students are supported in the way they need to be supported”.
Seventeen students were honored by the NAACP for graduating this year, others were not there but will receive their medals later.
