Today in downtown Sioux City, about 130 people participated in a walk for the Missing And Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day.
During the event, there were a couple of stops where people spoke about their experiences with MMIP. Mike McCauley, brother of Terri McCauley and Tamara Blackbird sister of Marlon White Eyes, both talked about their experiences of losing their relatives.
Josh Taylor, nephew of Terry McCauley, said that the importance of the event is to bring awareness to the crisis that Native American people face. Wearing red clothing as they walked, more people attended the event this year than last year.
