A judge has denied a 17-year-old’s request to be tried as a juvenile in a fatal downtown Sioux City shooting in the spring. The trial is set for November 2nd.
Seventeen-year-old Dwight Evans will be tried as an adult on charges of first-degree murder, going armed with intent and two drug counts, the Sioux City Journal reported.
Evans had plead not guilty to the charges earlier this year. District Judge Jeffrey Poulson said in his ruling Tuesday that Evans’ extensive criminal record shows that juvenile court has failed to rehabilitate him.
The South Dakota Department of Health's COVID-19 report today included three additional deaths and 474 new infections. The new infections included 87 Minnehaha County residents and 24 in Lincoln County. Active infections fell to 6,716, and that is a decrease of 16 from the previous day.
Sioux City Fire Rescue invites the public to its Fallen Firefighters Ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday on the northside of City Hall. The ceremony honors firefighters who gave their lives serving and protecting the citizens of Sioux City. In total, 12 firefighters have died in service. The first fallen firefighter died in 1884.
Iowans who lost income because of COVID-19 can begin sending in their applications for water bill assistance starting tomorrow. The new federal Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program is part of the ongoing effort to help families affected by the pandemic. The state has a little more than ten million dollars to distribute to eligible households.
