Nebrask Governor Lists Possible New Restrictions

304 News 111320

In Nebraska, Gov. Pete Ricketts today outlined new and tighter health restrictions that he plans to impose if COVID-19 patients fill 25% or more of hospital beds.

If the number of patients hits that mark, he would limit indoor gatherings to 10 people and outdoor gatherings to 25 people. He would close bars except for delivery and take-out, hold wedding and funeral receptions to the 10-person limit and postpone any elective surgery that can be delayed.

As of last night, there were 905 coronavirus patients in Nebraska hospitals. That equals 20% of staffed beds.  It would likely take only a few days before Nebraska hits the 25% mark.

The coronavirus is still spreading in Woodbury County. Today the county has 130 new cases with a total of 8,913 since the pandemic began. There have been 105 deaths and no new deaths today. Woodbury County has a 23%, rolling, 14-day positivity average.

Iowa has reached a new record of daily cases. The state has  surpassed 5,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases for the first time in a single day. A spike in infections is sending more people to hospitals. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 5,065 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours today. There were 19 additional deaths, raising the total to 1,947. The seven-day rolling average positivity rate in Iowa was 51.4% yesterday, second in the nation behind South Dakota.

South Dakota neared the record for new coronavirus cases reported in a single day today, as 1,611 people tested positive.

That was the second-largest number of infections reported in a single day since the pandemic began. The largest report came yesterday when over 2,000 people tested positive. Health officials also reported one death.  The patient was a man over the age of 79.
