GOING VIRAL INTERVIEW: Medical Update with Sioux City Community School Board Member Perla Alarcon-Flory - October 6, 2020

Perla Alarcon-Flory says her family, including husband and two daughters started coming down with symptoms of COVID-19 about two-weeks ago.  Her husband’s condition progressively got worse with high fevers and vomiting.

Nathan Flory ended up in the ER over the weekend, before an ambulance took him to a hospital in Omaha for testing and treatment.

Alarcon-Flory says her daughters are on the mend, but she still feels the impact of the disease with coughing, headache, body aches and hives.

Her husband spent two days in the hospital, lost 17 pounds in a week and is now home with a new diagnosis of diabetes.

Alarcon-Flory wishes the rest of the community would take the disease seriously and follow mask guidelines like the Sioux City Community School District to reduce the risk to others.

Alarcon-Flory still would like the school district to move to the hybrid model used at the start of the school year.

She says Board Member Monique Scarlett plans to revisit the issue at the next meeting on October 12th.  However, Alarcon-Flory thinks the rest of the board wants to continue with students in class full time.

She also wants to thank the community for all their support during this trying time and appreciates the hard work done by teachers and staff of the Sioux City Community School District.
