INTERVIEW: Jeremy Dumkrieger - "Iowa Educators for a Safe Return to School"

One of the organizers of the Facebook group, “Iowa Educators for a Safe Return to School’ put out a statement on social media about the decision by the Sioux City Community School District to have students attend in-person class two times a week. 

Jeremy Dumkrieger said “Thank you Sioux City Schools, I’m a little less worried about my kid.  Hybrid classes wll cut down on exposure!”

Dumkrieger, an art teacher from northwest Iowa, talked to Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer about the “Safe Return to School” organization that includes more than 21,500 members.  He also provides an update on a mock obituary he wrote to Iowa’s Governor and shares details on an event going on this weekend to show support for  event going on this weekend to show support for students and teachers.

A Flash Drive for Safe School takes place Saturday, August 15th, starting at 10 a.m. Supporters are meeting at 9:30 at North High in Sioux City.  Masks and social distancing are required.
