Face Masks Required in SC Buildings, Buses; Big Rise in IA COVID Cases

In an effort to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus,  Sioux City Transit passengers will be required to wear protective masks or face coverings on buses, beginning Wednesday and continuing until further notice.

Also by Wednesday, Sioux City officials have decided to require masks or face coverings while in city buildings. 

Woodbury County today has 15 new cases of COVID-19.  According to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), as of this morning,  there are a total of 3,561 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. There are no new virus-related deaths, meaning the death toll stands  at 47

Numbers compiled by Iowa health officials show more than 800 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the state over the weekend. That brings the total confirmed cases in Iowa to more than 42,500 since the outbreak began. 

The state's coronavirus tracking portal also showed a dozen COVID-19 deaths in Iowa over the weekend, bringing the state's total as of Monday morning to 832.

The site shows that of those who have tested positive, more than 29,800 have recovered. The total number of people tested in Iowa stood at 456,385 as of late Monday morning. 

Gov. Pete Ricketts has touted Nebraska's pandemic response and rosier-than-expected revenue outlook in his address to the Legislature. He also pushed for lawmakers to adopt his signature property tax relief and tax incentives packages within the remaining 13 days of the session. The Republican governor on Friday made a rare second address within the same session, which was suspended in March over fears of spreading the coronavirus. The session resumed today.

Sioux City's popular Food Truck Fridays will be coming back to downtown with a few concessions due to concerns over COVID-19. Food Truck Fridays is adopting a new grab-and-go format, which encourages people to take their food home or back to their office.
