INTERVIEWS WITH MORNINGSIDE TEAM MEMBERS AND FANS

Dozens lined Peters Avenue running through the heart of Morningside College.  A warm send-off in cool conditions for a successful football program.

The Mustangs take on the Marian University Knights for another appearance in the NAIA Football Championship game on Saturday.  Both teams are undefeated.

“The players all have each others back.  Coaches, um I really don’t think there’s a much better place to play than here,” said Conner Niles.

Conner Niles was a star wide receiver for the 2018 Championship team, he’s now a member of the coaching staff along with Coach Darius Hicks who played in another national championship game for Morningside in 2012.  Hicks shares the secret of success.

“The players are like family.  They work together as a team and really show off their hard-working spirit.”

And, President of Morningside College, John Reynders agrees.

“This is just an awesome team.  I can’t be more proud of Steve Ryan and the coaching staff and all of the young men.  They represent the college so well.”

Bo Els, a player orginally from Lincoln, Nebraska says he can’t wait for the experience of playing in back-to-back Championship games.

“I’m excited for it.  Just to get out of this cold weather mainly.  Mainly, to also compete for a national championship.  That’s what we came here to do.”

And, Bo Els, will take the field in Grambling, Louisiana with temperatures in the mid 50s.  Kickoff is set for 6 o’clock Saturday night.
