Congressman King Challenger Calls for "Change"

One of the Republicans facing Congressman Steve King in a primary election next year says “it’s time for a change”.

“Kind of the feeling on the ground is when I talk to people they think it’s time for Congressman King to go and these are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans saying that too.”

That’s Bret Richards, the former mayor of Irwin, business owner, veteran and  adjunct professor at Creighton University.

Richards says if King makes it out of the primary, he doesn’t think he will beat the Democrat on the ballot, JD Scholten.

Richards, a self-described conservative, stopped by the Siouxland Public Media studios and also weighed in on the big news coming out of Washington this week.

Richards calls the current impeachment proceedings a waste of time and says the new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico is a much better deal than NAFTA.

He shared what farmers are telling him.

“They are glad someone is trying to do something but they want something to go faster.  Well that’s the challenge when you deal with China that has 100-year plans they can wait out people.”

Richards isn’t the only challenger for Congressman King.  Also, in the race in the primary; Iowa State Senator Randy Feenstra of Hull and Woodbury County Board of Supervisor member Jeremy Taylor.    The primary election takes place in June.
