The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld a 2017 law that removed bargaining rights for many state employees.

In cases filed by the Iowa State Education Association and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the court ruled 4-3 today the law withstands constitutional challenges.

Justices concluded the Legislature was rational in giving certain public safety employees the right to bargain over many more issues than those in unions in which fewer than one-third of members are public safety workers.

The unions argued the law violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution.

A South Dakota man is suing his wife's lover, alleging that he stole her affection and destroyed his marriage.

Todd Larson says in his lawsuit filed in Lincoln County that Anthony Olson alienated his wife's affections.

He says he and his wife were married in July 2005 and that Olson acquired an "improper and undue influence" over his wife last summer.

Olson has denied the allegations and asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit.

South Dakota is one of a handful of states that have an alienation of affection law, which allows a spouse to sue their spouse's lover over an affair that ruined a relationship.
