Authorities say human remains have been found along the Elkhorn River in northeast Nebraska's Stanton County.

The remains were spotted Tuesday night southwest of Stanton. 

The Stanton County Sheriff's Office says the remains appear to have been washed out of the river during recent flooding and appear to have been in the water for an extended period.

The remains have not been identified, but are not those of 30-year-old Scott Goodman of Norfolk.  He was last seen two weeks ago on top of his car near a levee in Norfolk before being swept away by a surge of water.

A Nebraska woman has pleaded not guilty to stealing from a now-closed Sears store in Sioux City.

Investigators say Sandra Martinez of South Sioux City stole $400 on the first day she worked and $1,000 on the last day she worked there.

The store closed earlier this month one of 80 closings the troubled retailer announced in late December.

Five Democrats running for president plan to attend a forum at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake on Saturday.  The Heartland Forum is expected to focus on farm and rural issues.

Candidates taking part are Amy Klobuchar, Julian Castro, John Delaney and Elizabeth Warren.  Plus, Tim Ryan who is considering running for president.

Although former Vice President Joe Biden hasn't decided whether to launch a third presidential campaign, one of his top associates, Pete Kavanaugh, was in Des Moines yesterday meeting with potential senior staff and longtime supporters.  

And, an event is planned this Saturday night to help with flood victims in Hornick, Iowa.  A country dance party takes place at Anthem at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino starting at 7 pm with donations going to the Westwood Community Emergency Fund.
