BILL KURTIS, BYLINE: From NPR in WBEZ Chicago, this is WAIT WAIT ...DON'T TELL ME, the NPR News quiz. I'm Bill Kurtis. We're playing this week with Faith Salie, Kyrie O'Connor and Charlie Pierce. And here again is your host at the Chase Bank Auditorium in downtown Chicago, Peter Sagal.
PETER SAGAL, HOST:
Thank you Bill. In just a minute our political roundtable discusses the implications of this week's net neutrality ruling on the upcoming presidential primary races. Just kidding. We're just going to read you some limericks. If you'd like to play, give us a call at 1-888-WAIT-WAIT, that's 1-888-924-8924.
Right now, panel, some more questions for you from the week's news. Charlie, the artist who painted a portrait of President Bill Clinton that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington has revealed that the painting includes what?
CHARLIE PIERCE: It contains a shadow which is a representation of Monica Lewinsky's blue dress.
SAGAL: That is exactly right Charlie.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
SAGAL: This painting in the National Gallery - National Portrait Gallery shows President Clinton standing proudly - some might even say cockily...
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: In front of a fireplace. And there's this shadow on the mantle cast by something we can't see. And the artist said this week - just this week in an interview - that it is in fact Monica's famous blue dress. Although, some people swear it's a white and gold dress.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: This particular artist says that he felt that as the Lewinsky scandal cast a shadow over Mr. Clinton's presidency, he should include an actual shadow. In addition, he says, although you can't see it of course, under the jacket Mr. Clinton is wearing Paula Jones's bra.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: Faith, this week the hook up app - excuse me, dating app Tinder unveiled a new subscription service. It's already been met with some criticism though. Specifically, people are complaining that the company charges you more if you're what?
FAITH SALIE: Hot? Well, no - rich. Hot and rich. Hot and rich.
SAGAL: No, no, no. Keep in mind, this is - as I'm sure you don't know because you're happily married, Tinder is one of the - is this famous app where you...
SALIE: Oh, I know.
SAGAL: Oh you know all about it. Excuse me.
SALIE: That's how I stay happily married Peter.
SAGAL: I understand. And as you know, it's free.
SALIE: Yeah.
SAGAL: But now they're rolling out Tinder Plus, and you pay...
SALIE: Oh, if your older.
SAGAL: Exactly right.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
SAGAL: You pay double if you're old.
SALIE: Yeah, it's called surge pricing.
(LAUGHTER)
SALIE: As in hormone surges.
SAGAL: Right. That's what you meant. This week, Tinder announced they're offering this new premium membership - Tinder Plus. And if you are over 30, you pay twice as much for it. That's because, they say, young people have less money and also young people tend to be grossed out by your waddles, grandpa.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: You'll see an old lady look at photos in your phone and you'll say, oh, those your grandkids? And she'll be like, nope. Tonight Granny's having dinner at 4:30 and one of these hotties for dessert.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: Charlie from time to time, automakers will create a special edition car - the Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Explorer or the I Can't Believe You Fell for this Edition PT Cruiser. Well, now Chevy is releasing a special what edition luxury truck?
PIERCE: Pope Benedict XV.
SAGAL: That would be awesome, but no. This is for the truck driver who likes to buy his vehicles in bulk.
PIERCE: Well, I mean...
SAGAL: Well, where do you buy things in bulk?
PIERCE: Costco?
SAGAL: Yes, Costco.
(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)
SAGAL: It's the Costco Edition Chevy truck.
SALIE: And it's - and it's...
PIERCE: Does it have a gigantic tin of popcorn in the backseat?
SAGAL: It absolutely does. It has an extended cab - special Costco insignia's that it comes in a box of 20 identical trucks.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: It's expensive, but you save more per truck, you see.
SALIE: And then - and when you dive off the lot, is there somebody there to ask for a receipt with a Sharpie?
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: It's the Silverado Kirkland Edition. Kirkland, of course, is Costco's store brand. And it's only available to Costco shoppers, which is great 'cause it features things that Costco shoppers need, cup holders that can fit a 55 gallon drum of Mountain Dew.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: This is just the beginning though of retail-branded vehicles. Subaru has announced the Trader Joe's Edition Outback, with seating for six full-sized lesbians.
(LAUGHTER)
SAGAL: And by the way, that's not funny.
(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "PICKUP MAN")
JOE DIFFIE: (Singing) Well, I got my first truck when I was three, drove 100,000 miles on my knees. Hauled marbles and rocks and thought twice before I hauled a Barbie Doll bed for the girl next door. She tried to pay me with a kiss and I began to understand there's something women like about a pickup man. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
