A recent community discussion on diversity united local leaders for an honest look at the issues some members of our community face.  The killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis brought the long-standing issue of racism to the forefront nationally, including here in Sioux City.  The Junior League of Sioux City organized an event called “Celebrate Diversity-Foster Unity” at Camp High Hopes on July 9, 2020.

Because of social distancing, a small group heard insight on what it means to be a person of color and how to embrace individuals of different backgrounds. The panel included Treyla Lee, Mike Brown, Karen Mackey and moderator and Junior League Board Member Danielle Guitierrez.
