A generous couple has given Buena Vista University in Storm Lake a $500,000 endowment to help the school prepare education students to teach in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Siouxland Public Media’s Mary Hartnett has more.    :44

As part of the endowment's launch, students were able to experience BVU’s first-ever STEM classroom this fall semester. Assistant professor of education Dr. John Bedward says the lab and new curriculum are giving students real-life, hands-on experience.

“And so we’re using equipment, desk top 3D printers, and 3D scanners, so that students can actually model some of their ideas around engineering practices.”

Starting this fall, BVU will be offering a STEM endorsement, a STEM summer residency program for K-12 teachers, a STEM mobile lab and it will be creating a new STEM master's program.  For Siouxland Public Media, I’m Mary Hartnett.
