The Exchange on March 31, 2021 focused on teen sexuality and the increase of pregnancy and STI’s in the community.

SIOUXLAND COALITION TO PREVENT TEENAGE PREGNANCY/SUGGESTED RESOURCES

Income-based pregnancy testing, STI/HIV testing, and birth control. 

Anyone with additional STI questions, or questions on HIV testing and treatment is welcome to contact Carter at  712-226-8967 (or by email csmith@slandchc.com) or can contact the HIV program's general line at 712-226-8973.  Walk In Rapid HIV Screening services are offered Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm on a walk in basis or by appointment outside of those hours by speaking with a Caseworker to schedule a time.

Those interested in scheduling any appointment for STI screening are welcome to contact their primary care provider to inquire about the STI testing process at their provider's office OR they can contact Siouxland Community Health Center at 712-252-2477 to schedule an appointment for STI screening through their Title X program or to establish care with a primary care provider and get screened with their new provider. Siouxland Community Health Center's Title X program provides confidential family planning services for men, women, and teens which include:

A full range of birth control information and supplies. Some methods provided include: birth control pills, the “Patch,” the “Depo Shot,” the NuvaRing, IUDs, “The implant Nexplanon”, condoms, natural family planning, and emergency contraception.

Pregnancy testing, counseling and referrals
Annual exams (check-ups)
Screening for sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS.
Breast and cervical cancer, and other health screening; UTI
Yeast Infection treatment
Client education and counseling and community education
Follow-up and referrals for social and medical issues.

*Siouxland Community Health Center, as a Federally Qualified Health Center, and in alignment with the Hyde Amendment, cannot offer Abortion services through its programs.

Siouxland Community Health Center (SCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center; and as a patient-centered medical home provides a comprehensive home for primary and preventative medical care, dental care, HIV care, prenatal care, and behavioral health services. SCHC accepts several insurance types, sees people with and without insurance,  and offers a Sliding Fee program to those that apply, which can help cover the costs associated with their visit and allows Siouxland Community Health Center to see people regardless of their ability to pay.

1:1 comprehensive sex education for females aged 13-19 years old, 1:1 parent education on how to talk to teens about sex and healthy relationships. Call Alyssa at 712-301-2833 to chat.

Teen Parenting Groups:

Lutheran Services in Iowa also offers Teen Parenting Groups for expectant or parenting youth. They work closely with the Sioux City Community Schools to offer this programming through the school district. Call Alyssa at 712-301-2833 to get enrolled.

Collaboration with the Siouxland District Health Department, Lutheran Services in Iowa, Crittenton Center, and Community Action for a longer-term support program. The organizations work with parents to build positive and healthy attachments and relationships with their babies and support parents in helping their children grow to be happy, healthy, school ready humans. All inquiries go to SDHD and then they connect the parent(s) to the best fit home visitor possible.

1:1 and group-based parenting education sessions. Participants can earn incentives for attending.

Community Action Agency:

Financial assistance for low-income families and comprehensive Early Childhood programming. CAA’s Early Head Start program offers 1:1 home visiting support for parents of any age.

The Community Action Agency of Siouxland provides food assistance, five days-a-week through our Food Bank.

Discount diaper program, free maternity clothing, baby/children’s clothing, car seats, high chairs and occasionally cribs for parents of all ages.
