Sioux City experienced a few close races on election day.
Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer was there for the results.
A few dozen people and members of the media watched as results came down at the Woodbury County Courthouse on election night.
There are more than 57,000 registered voters in the county with races in 15 cities and 10 school districts.
Turnout was high according to election officials. More than 26 percent voted instead of an average of ten to 15 percent. And, more than 5,000 cast an absentee ballot the most in any election according to Election Commissioner and Auditor Pat Gill.
And, here’s how the votes stacked up in Sioux City; Mayor Bob Scott easily won a fifth term beating Maria Rundquist by 68 to 31 percent.
In the race for city council, political newcomer Julie Schoenherr bested incumbent Rhonda Capron by 51 percent to 48 percent.
This was the first year for a combined city and county election and that included the Sioux City School Board.
Six candidates sought four open seats with Dan Greenwell, Juline Albert, Monique Scarlett and Taylor Goodvin winning election.
Greenwell had the biggest support at 22 percent.
The county will finalize the election results next Tuesday.
