A controversial figure during pioneer times was a woman from Sioux City.  Annie Tallent originally came from the east coast and was the first white woman to enter the scared grounds of the Lakota people in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Tour guide Karen Bucholz, also known as “Kare Bear” shared her story with Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer.

She co-owns Black Hills Above and Beyond Tours.
