Today's World Cafe session features Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers and singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield. The two have run into each other on the road for years, and developed a friendship based on many things, including their mutual fondness for the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Smith died in 2003 at age 34, leaving five albums and the posthumous From A Basement On A Hill.
Finally, after years of planning comes a collection of covers called Seth Avett And Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smith. On this episode of World Cafe, they perform an assortment of Smith and Smith-adjacent songs.
