Tommy Bolin

Siouxland Public Media

Singer/Songwriter Spencer Aspleaf grew up in Sioux City.  The 28-year-old is a member of the band “Port Nocturnal” and recently sat down with Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer with his guitar to talk about his full-time musical career.

Thanks to Spencer for taking the time talking to us and bringing along his dog Hallie Berries.   He also performed a new tune called “Getting Out of This” at our Siouxland Public Media Studios.

Despite his early passing, Tommy Bolin not only remains a Sioux City treasure but also one of the best guitarists in rock and jazz history.  No less than Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes and Joe Bonamassa look to him as a model for their own distinguished careers.

In this special edition of the b-sides with Bolin and Blumberg, Tommy's short but prolific time in the spotlight is presented.  From his time in Zephyr through his last recording, Private Eyes, you can see his impressive evolution.

The Chesterfield has closed for good. The bar and music venue on Fourth Street in downtown Sioux City has been rocking for more than 16 years.  Siouxland Public Media's Mary Hartnett has this report.
