The Iowa Caucuses are about a week away and for the past several months the candidates have sought out the support of Siouxlanders.  Siouxland Public Media’s Sheila Brummer covered many of these campaign events and found insight from a young, but informed source with aspirations of her own.

Democrat Cory Booker has dropped out of the presidential race after failing to qualify for the December primary debate. Booker announced Monday that he was ending a campaign whose message of unity and love failed to gain traction in a political era marked by chaos and anxiety.

Democrat Cory Booker today has dropped out of the presidential race after failing to qualify for the December primary debate.  The U.S. senator from New Jersey had struggled in polling and fundraising since launching his bid last February. Booker was unable to hit 5% support in a single qualifying poll required to make it on the January debate stage.

'Dark money' ties raise questions for GOP Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa

Documents obtained by The Associated Press reveal an outside group founded by top political aides to Sen. Joni Ernst is working closely with the Iowa Republican to raise money and boost her reelection prospects.

Some legal experts say the degree of overlap between her campaign and the nonprofit Iowa Values could violate the law.

Emails show Ernst fundraiser Claire Holloway Avella asked a donor for $50,000 for the group following an introduction by the senator.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 tomorrow night for a large part of Siouxland.  The northwest corner of Iowa and the Iowa Great Lakes Region is under a heat advisory. 

Temperatures will be in the mid 90’s for a large part of the region but the heat index will make it feel like 108 degrees. 

If you go south to Omaha, it’s expected to be 100 degrees but feel like 111.  They will have an excessive  heat warning through Saturday night.  That also includes the communities of Onawa and Mapleton.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will spend much of the coming week talking about his approach to health care.  He will be Le Mars tomorrow afternoon and in Sioux City tomorrow night. 

Today,  Biden has unveiled a plan that would add a "public option" to the 2010 health care overhaul known as "Obamacare," with expanded coverage paid for by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Biden hopes his positioning as Obamacare's chief defender helps him on several fronts.
