The Oath of Office took place this morning for Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott.

Scott won his third consecutive term against Maria Rundquist.  Scott also served as mayor in Sioux City in the 1990s.

New Council Member Julie Schoenherr was also sworn in this morning.  She beat incumbent Rhonda Capron in November’s election.  Capron served on the city council for eight years.   

Two Democratic candidates for president are in Siouxland today.

Dozens of Sioux City girls took part in a Winter Showcase that also gave back to the community. 

Members of Girls. Inc. took to the stage to sing they also handed out check to a few local charity groups, including the Humane Society, Ronald McDonald House and Support Siouxland Soldiers.  They worked on service projects and sold items such as candy cane reindeer to raise money.

Lamb Theatre helped get the girls ready for their performance.  The group did songs by Carole King.

'Dark money' ties raise questions for GOP Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa

Documents obtained by The Associated Press reveal an outside group founded by top political aides to Sen. Joni Ernst is working closely with the Iowa Republican to raise money and boost her reelection prospects.

Some legal experts say the degree of overlap between her campaign and the nonprofit Iowa Values could violate the law.

Emails show Ernst fundraiser Claire Holloway Avella asked a donor for $50,000 for the group following an introduction by the senator.

Democratic Presidential Amy Klobuchar campaigned in northwest Iowa this weekend.

On Saturday morning, the US Senator from Minnesota joined a caucus training session at the Sioux City Public Library.

At the event, Klobuchar said she wanted to help Iowa farmers and ethanol producers who have struggled because of the ongoing trade war with China and ethanol waivers to oil refiners.  Those changes have led some farmers to file for bankruptcy.

Today is Veterans Day and vets, city and county officials and residents met this morning at the Woodbury County Courthouse to honor those who have served in the military.   Director of the Sioux City Vet Center Mary Jordan told those gathered in the courthouse rotunda that when the Vet Center started in the 1970s vets were not always treated with respect.

Today is veterans day and vets, city and county officials met this morning at the Woodbury County Courthouse to pay tribute.   Mary Jordan is the director of the Sioux City Vet Center.  Jordan told the group of around 125 people that her organization serves combat veterans, and helps them readjust to civilian life.

Three Democratic Presidential candidates will campaign in Northwest Iowa this weekend. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar,  and Colorado Senator Michael Bennet will make appearances in Sioux City and Orange City. 

Michael Bennet is meeting with potential caucus-goers this afternoon and evening. Asked this morning about the tariff battle that President Trump set off with China, Bennet said Trump was right to question the trade imbalance with China. But, Bennet says the president did so in a terribly clumsy way.

Michael Bloomberg has reached out to a senior Iowa Democrat in a sign that the billionaire former New York City mayor is planning a presidential campaign.

Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack told The Associated Press that Bloomberg telephoned him Thursday evening as reports were emerging that he was weighing a campaign. Bloomberg left a voicemail indicating he plans to run.

Bloomberg aides say he has made calls to prominent Democrats but has not made a final decision to run for president.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar,  and Colorado Senator Michael Bennet will make appearances in northwest Iowa today and tomorrow. 

Unlike many of the Democratic candidates, Bennet does not oppose a wall on the border with Mexico if it is part of the larger, modern immigration system.  He wrote an immigration bill in 2013 with a similar suggestion.
