Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts plans to ease more restrictions for public gatherings for a majority of the state on June 1st.

The move does not include Dakota County a spot impacted by an outbreak at the Tyson Foods plant in Dakota City.

Nebraska will let bars, zoos, movie theaters and swimming pools reopen and allow small concerts and auctions to resume.

Ricketts says  he’s trying to strike a balance between public health and the need to move back toward normal life as people grow restless.

The state of Iowa reports a surge of 740 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths for a total of 170 deaths and almost 7,900 positive cases in all.

The governor says the increase correlates with more testing done in high-exposure areas.

The governor admits there is a backlog in getting test results, but the state lab should catch up this weekend so she expects even higher numbers of confirmed cases.

The number of positive cases in Woodbury County topped 1,000 on Friday with 183 new cases.

About 20% are considered recovered and out of isolation.

Iowa reported the deadliest day due to COVID-19 with a dozen deaths for a total of almost 150.

“We know COVID-19 poses the most risk to people who are older and those with underlying heath conditions.  The vast majority of deaths are with that vulnerable population,” said Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says she plans to take extra action to deal with a surge of cases in Woodbury County.

There are a total of almost 750. That’s more than 10% of cases in the state.

A day after mayors in the Sioux City metro area called for more transparency from local businesses in reporting cases of COVID-19, Tyson Foods in Dakota City says it will not share information surrounding the number of impacted employees.

Tyson says is has taken measures to protect team members.

At a news conference on Tuesday, the Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was asked if packing plants should release more information about the number of positive cases.

Iowa saw the biggest daily increase of COVID-19 cases today and six additional deaths.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds reported 189 new cases for a total of 1,710.

Eighty-six of those new cases are tied to an outbreak at a Tyson Foods pork processing plant in southeast Iowa. A total of 186 workers there have tested positive so far.

The plant temporarily suspended operations last week and will continue to stay closed until at least next week.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says it still appears the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic won’t come until the end of the month.

Iowa had its largest single-day increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, adding 125 new positive tests for a total of 1,270.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is urging residents to focus on what they can do individually to stop the spread of the coronavirus and less about whether she will order further restrictions to fight the outbreak.

Reynolds told reporters that “sometimes everyone is getting so hung up on the metrics” guiding the state’s response, including whether local stay-at-home orders may become necessary.
