The Documentary, "Growing Magic: The Mickey Mouse Cornfield Story," was written and produced by Buena Vista digital media students. It tells the story of a card formed in a cornfield for Mickey Mouse's birthday in the year of 1988.

The documentary was worked on for the past three years and upon it's premiere, Siouxland Public Media spoke with teacher and Disney fanatic, Jerry Johnson. Siouxland Public Media also had the chance to speak with two of his students, Olivia Weisler and Mason Mcgrew. They discuss parts of the story and share details of the production.

Coming up this week on The Exchange, a new documentary by Buena Vista University students tells the story of how Disney put Mickey Mouse in an Iowa cornfield

Also, why the Iowa legislature’s move to expand medical marijuana has some law enforcement officers concerned.

And we talk with a man that walked the length of the route of Keystone XL Pipeline, a trip that changed his views about the people who live in the Midwest.

That and more coming up on The Exchange, Wednesday at noon and Friday at nine a.m. on SPM.

This is Jessi Wakefield with the Sioux City Public Library and you are listening to Check it Out. Today I would like to recommend the Disney produced movie, The Finest Hours starring Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Casey Affleck. This movie is based off of true events of what is still considered today the most daring sea rescue ever attempted by the United States Coast Guard. It is the story of heroism, sacrifice, and love for your fellow man. In the winter of 1952, New England was battered by the most brutal nor'easter in years.

Disney Fantasia, a film that was made to showcase classical music, was shown Saturday in the Orpheum Theater. Best of all, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra performed the score, live! Gretchen Gondek talks with the man in charge of keeping everything in synch, Conductor, Ryan Haskins.
