Food For Thought - 9-07 Christine McAvoy

Sep 7, 2018

It's a coffee talk this time on Food For Thought, but probably like none you've heard before. Adrian talks with Christine McAvoy about Saturday's Ethiopian/Eritrean coffee ceremony. There's strong coffee, food, fellowship and conversation. Find out more this episode of Food For Thought.

Food For Thought - 3-23 Brad Lepper, Stone Bru

Mar 23, 2018

Brad Lepper of Stone Bru is the guest. We had planned to have Brad come out in November to talk about the new store at the Dunes, then Food for Thought got a new host (Adrian) and then that new host started working for Stone Bru. Steve Smith steps into the guest host chair for this week. Along the way we find that Stone Bru is opening a new Singing Hills Location! We also get deep into coffee talk, and espresso talk, and latte art we get a lot covered.

I knew I would become a teacher the day I heard a man, who couldn’t read, say ‘cat’ in Spanish.

I had just arrived in Mexico and was living in a Franciscan monastery. I could barely speak Spanish, and I had never thought about how to teach someone to read in English. But one day, Sister Charity saw me and said, “Hey, you look like you can read. Go teach Don Maximo in the house over there.”

October 1 is International Coffee Day. Celebrations will begin at 12:00 a.m. and lightning bolt through the rest of the day. To kick things off, Siouxland Public Media's Mark Munger visited the Coffee Spot on the campus of Western Iowa Tech Community College, a fabulous haunt that brews Caturra Coffee, a locally roasted bean.

Stone Bru

The corner of Gordon Drive and Stone Avenue used to be just another anonymous spot in a city canvassed with chain stores. Now however, it is home to a local coffee shop, Stone Bru, that brews coffee roasted by a local roaster, Caturra Coffee Roasting Co. It's a refreshing shot of local flavor.
